I’ve been working hard to figure out a name for the blog, something that captures the basic idea of what I think will guide my steps, my prayers and my travels. Something simple. And I think I’ve got it—Voracious Theology. I am hungry for all things “God”, hungry to learn more about God, hungry to be in deeper relationship with God, but I am also hungry for the experiences of this sabbatical—the food, fellowship and family that lead me on this path, the beauty and strangeness of countries where Alistair and I will travel—Scotland, England, Italy and Greece, and then time in the US to visit with loved ones, take a course that will require a 6 month project in order to receive certification.
But the main thing is—I am hungry! Hungry for all of what sabbatical means. Most people on sabbatical talk about rest and refreshment. Of course I hope for those things! Yet I know myself and I approach all this with my heart wide open and with my appetite for God sharpened.
In keeping with my Doctorate project and our own food-centric ministries at St. John’s/One Church Street, I want to be nourished by God’s word and God’s world. At the Last Supper, Jesus called us to eat and to drink in order to fully receive: bread and wine, body and blood. I love both the earthiness and the sacredness of Eucharist. I love that the meal is built on giving thanks to God for the simplest things, and also the most profound.
My blog posts are always wide ranging: meals, fellowship, creation, prayer, reflection, nourishment. How is God feeding me today? Welcome to the feast!
